Arjen Karel
I am a Arjen, the PageSpeed and Core Web Vitals expert. I have a deep passion for new internet technologies that connect people together.
I have helped many slow sites improve their PageSpeed and User Experience. I can do the same for you!
I started my journey 26 years ago, when the internet was limited by my dial-up model. I was fortunate enough to work at the Erasmus University and research human interaction on the internet. I realized then that PageSpeed had a huge impact on the perceived quality of the page. And although the internet has evolved far beyond that point PageSpeed and website interaction has become a passion of mine.

I am a Dutch guy and we are known to be direct. I am not an exception. Most people love it! I will give it to you straight and work hard at solving your problem!
I am also a pragmatist, I work with what I get and use my creativity along with my expert knowledge to find that perfect suited solutions to site speed issues.
I love to share my knowledge, teach and educate. I believe in empowering teams and in working towards that point where sites can sustain a PageSpeed strategy without my supervision.
When I am not working
First and foremost I am a father. I have 3 beautiful kids and a great wife who I love more that anything in the world. About 4 times year I take my kids camping and give my wife time to herself. A win-win for all of us!
Once a month I take up my old job as a psychologist and teach a 'dad' course where I talk to new dads what to expect and how to deal with fatherhood. I am also a chess teacher to kids.
When I have some time for myself I love to play some tennis, I am not bad but certainly not a great player. I do love the exercise. I make up for sitting behind my computer all the time by walking our dog for an hour a day. I play guitar, even had a top-40 single some time ago.

My first website
In the early days of the internet (when windows 3.1 was booted from DOS, good times) I built my first website. Fun fact: as of today that site still gets about 3 millions visitors per month and has a pagespeed score of 98.
Erasmus University
In the early days of the internet (when windows 3.1 was booted from DOS, good times) I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work at the Erasmus University. Our team researched on the perceived content quality of information on the web and how users interacted with that information. You could say that we did the first ever research on web User Experience. That is were my love for cutting edge technical enhancements and User Experience was born.
Mod PageSpeed
In 2002 I had the opportunity to do some work with the guys from Google on their PageSpeed module: Mod Pagespeed. I wont claim I did most of the work yet the insight it gave me on PageSpeed was invaluable.
Technical SEO consultant
We designed the first ever tools that measured content and site quality. From there my next and greatest project: MarketingTracer was born. MarketingTracer is the number 1 tool for web professionals. We helped over 125.000 sites improve their SEO and UX.
It was during that time that I really started to comprehend the value of technical SEO, UX and page speed. The best way to describe it by imagining racing your old car against a brand new, tuned and shining Tesla. Once you start racing the outcome is fixed.
